Events for 2015-2016

The Wickenburg Children’s cultural Organization (WCO) invites all to their Annual Fundraiser: Paris Encore.  The event is 6 to 10 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2016 beginning with a no host bar. Wine will also be included with dinner.  Dance the night away while supporting WCO and its Children’s music programs, the Garcia Little Red Schoolhouse and a great venue for community events.  The Venue for this event will be announced.

Dinner will be catered by Eddie Nasser. Music by Max Borjon and his band. Yvonne Acero of the Voice fame is scheduled to make an appearance.

Come to the grounds of the Garcia Little Red Schoolhouse for this fun filled event. Our Sixth  Fall Music in the Park and Fifith Annual Oktoberfest is October 10th, complete with brats and traditional music. All are welcome to  the Garcia Little Red Schoolhouse grounds. The Duane Tendick Oktoberest band will play.  They played for us in 2013. Proceeds from this event help us keep the Garcia Little Red Schoolhouse open.

. The Annual Spring Fundraiser was wonderful, 

 

Music was provided by Max Borjon’s Band.  Max brought a French vocalist from Sedona who really added to the atmosphere.  Max Borjon Lopez, aka Max Borjon, was born in Prescott and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. After graduating from college in the Bay Area, Max started Max Borjon Orchestras and Entertainment, where he formed an 18 piece big band that performed at corporate and public events. Max has performed with such artists as Lew Rawls, The Temptations, Debbie Reynolds, Frankie Lane, Kay Star, Charro the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Frankie Avalon, The Stars of Lawrence Welk, Freddy Cole Show, Wayne Newton, Carol Lawrence, Little Anthony and The Imperials, Patty Page, and the Tex Benneke Orchestra.

 Eddie Nasser catered the dinner where the choices were Steak and Lobster, Chicken Kiev and vegetarian lasagna.  Wine is served with dinner.   

 

Fifth Annual Music in the Park: March 1, 2015

Featuring ~~Stephen Michael Basement Studio. At five years old he started to write songs using his mother's piano. In his teen years, he joined a band as a bass player. As time moved on, Stephen Michael Basement Studio started to write music and lyrics as a solo artist. A chance meeting with Maye James Holler landed him a contract with Kris Colet Managment. He has never learned how to read or write music. He simply plays from the heart and keeps his work in his memory.

Hassayampa School's Coyote Chorus and Violin students will be showcased.

Chaparral Ice Cream will have refreshments for sale.

BANDSTAND BOOGIE, Havana Nights  IS SATURDAY, APRIL 6, 2013 FROM 6 TO 10 PM.  Max Borjon and his 6 piece band, The Guayabera Social Club played through the night as guests dine and dance to Latin rhythms and jazz tunes.

Dance the night away while supporting WCO and its Children’s music programs.

 


MUSIC IN THE PARK, SUNDAY, MARCH 3, 2013 from 2 to 4 pm.

Latigo_Band

Entertainers were on the grounds of the Garcia Little Red Schoolhouse.  Featured performers were Latigo, a four piece band from Prescott, designated as a Top 40 Country Band. They specialize in Live Country Music for all occasions. Mike Stazenski is Lead Vocals, guitar, fiddle; Joe Canuel - Lead guitar, keyboards, vocals; Rik Prince - bass and vocals; and Nick Canuel - Drums, guitar, vocals. Thanks to Friend of the WCO, Gary Clemmons, also a member of the band,  for arranging Latigo to perform for this event.   In addition, local professional and amateur artists performed.  This includes but is not limited to Caroline Markham and Ray Calloway, the Wickenburg Community Chorus, and the Coyote Chorus.

 


 


OKTOBERFEST, OCTOBER 13, 2012

Our Fourth Fall Music in the Park was October 13th, complete with brats and traditional music.  
 

“The Fun Guys” associated with the Accordion Club of Sun City was the featured band. They lived up to their name to making this an afternoon of fun in celebration of Oktoberfest. Jack Dermody, the Band Leader states “they specialize in Oktoberfest festivals”.  We also had local talent playing Oktoberfest spirited music.  Thanks to Ron Badowsky for playing his accordian in the spirit of the day.






Events for 2011-2012 Season
  

BANDSTAND BOOGIE WAS MARCH 31, 2012 and a huge success.  Max Borjon and his 17 piece Jazz Band played through the night as guests dined and danced in their 1920's attire.  Funds were raised for the Bandstand at the Garcia Little Red Schoolhouse as well as for WCO operating support.  Everyone was excited about the Boogie next year and the possible theme.

MUSIC IN THE PARK, SUNDAY, MARCH 4, 2012 from 2 to 5 pm.
"100 minutes of Arizona Music"  was the theme in celebration of the Arizona State Centennial.  There was a variety of performers from professional to the children who participate in WCO programs. Refreshments will be available for sale.

Our First Music in the Park on October 23rd was a huge success. There was all types of music, food, fun.  Community members sat  in the area where we hope to have a bandstand in the future on the Little Red Schoolhouse grounds.

Santa and Mrs. Claus were at the Little Red School House after the Christmas Parade of Lights in December to greet children and the Wickenburg Community Chorus sang beautiful Christmas songs.

 Renovation Celebration, Saturday, October 17, 2009
Wickenburg Children’s cultural Organization (WCO) invited all to celebrate the Garcia Little Red Schoolhouse (LRSH) renovations made, thanks to Wellik Foundation Grants and many donors and supporters who were recognized. There was an old time Ice Cream Social with ice cream sponsored by Chaparral Ice Cream Parlor; and musical performances, including Morristown School students on violin.  WCO seeded the Morristown program with two semesters of funding.  Morristown was so impressed with the successes from the program that they wrote and received a grant which will extend the instruction for five years.  WCO continues to provide their violins.

Events during the 2007-2008 Season

History to Music Program, June 23 through June 27, 2008

one week Music/History program from June 23 through June 27.   They created a Tableau depicting the history of Education in the Wickenburg area.The program included Dr. Cravath enjoys helping children discover their traditional culture.  In this case the history of education in the Wickenburg Area.   At the end of the week they performed their  for parents and community members, using the information they learned.

 

        2008 Scholarship Program

No qualified applications were received in 2007-2008.  If you know a high school senior in the Wickenburg area for 2008-2009 who is interested in pursuing Music or any of the Arts in the college career, encourage him/her to request an application from the high school counselor or contact the WCO with the information below.

Free Concert by the Air Force Band of the West Concert Band

 

*Thursday, March 13. 2008 the U.S. Air Force Band of the West Concert Band performed as the guests of. Wickenburg Cultural Organization, in the Wickenburg Community Center ( 160 N. Valentine Street).

The performance was free of charge and open to the public.  The Concert Band is a 45-member ensemble which represents the U.S. Air Force by performing music for formal military ceremonies, educational clinics, and public concerts throughout the Southwest. At every performance they offer to the audience a wide range of entertaining music by preeminent composers. The band’s repertoire consists of music from the Renaissance up to the present day ranging from serious symphonic band literature to Broadway musicals, and from Sousa marches to today’s popular hits.  The members of the band are highly skilled professional musicians coming from colleges and universities all over the nation to serve in the U. S. Air Force.

Gold Rush Activities

 

*Friday, February 8,  school house was opened 9-5.  Reunion of all students who ever attended the Little Red School House. Reception and display of Quilt opportunity.

 

*Saturday, February 9, school house was opened 8-4.  .

   Puppet Show in a Private Home

 

*Sunday, January 27 we had a fund raiser in a private home featuring a Puppet Show.  Students from our violin program also performed.  Many positive comments were expressed.

  Performance by the Arizona State University Orchestra

 

*September 25, 2007 for elementary schools in Wickenburg, Wittmann, Congress, Yarnell, Morristown, and Aguila at the Del E. Webb Center .

This was an educational concert for students in grades K-6, with 2 performances. Thanks to Town of Wickenburg, Meridian Bank and West Valley Arts Council for making this program possible.

in Bashas’ gift cards, donated by Bashas’ Supermarkets.   Congratulations to Aaron Wolfe who one first prize.
